One of the major impediments to establishing trees in
paved urban areas is the lack of an adequate soil volume for
tree root growth. Soils under paved areas are highly
compacted. This limits root growth, causing it to be
contained in a very small useable volume of soil, without
adequate water, nutrients or oxygen. Under these conditions,
urban trees grow poorly and die prematurely.
The placement of Utelite E-SoilŪ Structural Soil under paved
surfaces ensures adequate amounts of water, nutrients and
oxygen will be available for tree roots. The Structural Soil
supports the pavement load, but also provides an ideal soil
environment for tree root establishment. The additional root
space encourages deep root growth away from the pavement
surface, eliminating problems associated with pavement
displacement.
