Utelite ‘Coarse’
Expanded Shale (5/8” – ¼”) is used as a lightweight
drainage fill for retaining wall systems, as a lightweight fill over
structures and to create specialty planting soils for urban trees
and rooftop gardens.
Utelite
‘Mediums’ Expanded Shale (3/8” graded) is used as
drainage aggregate in golf greens & athletic fields, is combined
with other soil products to create optimum soil mixes for green
roofs, rooftop gardens and raised planters, it is also used as a
playground surface material.
Utelite ‘Fines’
Expanded Shale (1/4” minus) is used as a soil amendment
to improve soil properties, is combined with other soil products to
create optimum soil mixes for urban trees, rooftop gardens,
planters, athletic fields and specialty gardens and is used as a
topdressing for turf surfaces.
Utelite ‘10Mesh’
Expanded Shale (fine sand) is combined with peat to
create root zone mixes for golf greens and athletic fields, it is
also used as a bedding sand and joint sand for pavers and stepping
stones.
SOIL CONDITIONER
Utelite E-Soil Soil
Conditioner is pure Utelite expanded shale. Incorporating the
Soil Conditioner into heavy clay or compacted soils will provide an
optimum environment for plant establishment and garden maintenance.
The Soil Conditioner's porous texture permanently breaks up clay
soil, improving drainage so roots get enough oxygen for healthy
growth.

Utelite E-Soil Soil
Builder is a balanced blend of Utelite expanded shale and rich,
organic compost. This unique combination creates a superior
soil amendment to condition both heavy clay and sandy soils.
When properly applied, the Soil Builder will keep the soil loose and
non-compacted, allowing better penetration of air, water and
nutrients to encourage deep healthy root growth. The rich,
natural organic compost found in the Soil Builder improves the
soil’s natural structure and living environment creating an optimum
root development zone.
ROOT ZONE MIX
Utelite E-Soil Root
Zone Mix is a combination of Utelite Soil Conditioner, organic
compost and screened loamy topsoil. This special formulation
is used as premium topsoil for general landscaping, planting and
backfilling around trees or shrubs. It also is used to fill
large planter boxes, containers and raised garden beds.
